OUR PROGRAM
K120 provides online classes for students 3rd-12th grade. These grade levels are able to access the online instruction with little to no help is why we have chosen to only offer classes for those grades only.
How does it work?
Students/parents are given access to an online website that will contain all of the weekly assignments. No books are needed. We offer two types of programs: monitored or independent studies. With the curriculum only (independent studies) option, parents are provided all that is needed online for the parent to teach or for the student to follow without help. With the monitored program, students are given directions from a certified teacher on what assignments to complete, grades, and access to the teacher is provided as needed.
How is the class accessed?
After tuition is paid, the family is given an individualized web address on our school platform. Once you have the web address you can begin the class, its self paced but is laid out with weekly assignments.
What is the time commitment?
We recommend the parent assess and teach from the class (or the student access the material) 3-4 times per week. On the platform 4 assignments are given each week with daily reading, links to research, videos to watch to enforce the material read, vocabulary practice or science labs to complete. On average students spend 40 minutes 4 times a week for each class.
What if our family travels a large amount and our child isn't able to login weekly?
Our classes are self paced so if your child can't assess the material for a few days to a few weeks that is fine. We only worry about class completion so it if takes a semester or a year to complete the class that is fine. We will give you a certificate of completion for each semester long class completed, in whatever time frame you need.
Where does the curriculum material come from?
We have a very unique platform. K120 hires certified teachers from the private or public school program to upload their class websites. Most teachers use technology in their classrooms so it is very common for a teacher to have their own Google Site page with weekly lessons, assignments, quizzes, test, etc. We pay teachers to transfer their class websites to our platform where they are customized for K120 . Then we pay teachers to sponsor their classes (up to 3 classes per semester) handling all the grading, parent reports, and tutoring if needed over the material. This is a very unique situation allowing homeschoolers to get the material taught in a Christian private school or public school, but in their own environment. Working parents love this option because it allows parents to teach a class, without all the lesson planning. Everything needed to teach the class is provided on one website. Our teachers create the website at the grade level needed, so the material is easy to follow so most students assess the website, complete the assignments, and need little to no parent help.
Will my child watch videos and have to login at a certain time?
These are teacher made websites, so everything needed for the instruction will be provided. Your child does not have to login at a certain time each day to participate. Each week they will be given material to read, worksheets to complete, projects, links to use for further research, and sometimes videos from various safe resources to watch to help promote the material covered. Please see our sample page for additional information.
What are the benefits of a K120 class?
For Parents: access to all the material needed to teach a class without any of the time consuming lesson planning, all of the standards are covered for each class since they are created and used by certified teachers
For Students: offers students quality grade level appropriate curriculum, gives them the option to choose the class rigor (either self paced or follow along on a weekly basis with the others in the class), gives each students access to a certified teacher for additional help if needed
